- What is making these spread? Is it lack of forest management / controlled burns, etc?by sharts
- Some wildfires started in June, but the situation exploded after Ankara Summit in July 8 2026. Fires near Oslo, Ottawa, Toronto, Paris, Bordeaux, Madrid, Malaga, Naples, The West coast of US, Istambul. Yep even Turkey, the host of the NATO meeting is burning. All in just a couple of weeks.
Arsonists detained in France, Spain and UK. In Calabria there are even reports of cats with flammable soaked rags tied to its tails, set on fire and released in the fields, they had found also candles lit among flammable rags, and delayed ignition devices [1]. This is everything except a natural disaster. Hybrid war. Don't look no further.

by pvaldes - - keeping pareto s principle (not sure if its applicable here) what would be the one thing you could change today that ll cut down emissions or cabon dioxide accumulation by 80% tomorrow? or how about methane?by vivzkestrel
- Wildberries?
What is the point to save a bit of CO2 here and there, when Ukraine, Sudan and Iran wars are sending us to the Carboniferous firing on all cylinders?
by pvaldes - Methane eliminated at the source by feeding livestock seaweed. I heard about this 20 years ago but it's been crickets since...
Methane is 8x worse than co2, and can be spotted from space better and better with each new environmental satellite.
- Kill the cows?! .... I mean, you did ask for radical steps that could be undertaken quickly. Aside from that, remember that the covid lockdowns led to a CO2 dent especially due to less traffic (car, planes..). But yeah, even these steps would be too little, too late. But still, they would still help. We have to remember that steps undertaken now, even if small, do still help. This planet will be here in hundreds and hundreds of years, so humanity has to show within this century that it is wanting to be there, too. Right now it all feels like our civilization is a little too much yoloing...by Tarsul
- I think that is the root of the problem, there is no one magick trick. We need to attack it from many angles, as each of them is weighting only a couple of percents. Reduce air traffic and reduce meat consumption and reduce fossil fuel for transportation and reduce deforestation...by julosflb
- NATO is burning. This is a fact. More than 5000 critical-level wildfires active in USA and Canada West coast.
China and Russia are doing relatively well at least. Except by Volgograd Oblast, that is boiling, and some Siberian activity below the expected average, most of Russia is quiet. China has less active wildfires than Spain.
And if you think that this, or the 652 wildfires in France and other 670 in Spain are bad, check the more than 30.000 critical-level wildfires active in Angola, Zambia and other African countries. African rainforest is a smoking disaster right now.
