- Rivian’s software is pretty good. Often key fobs don’t work, but generally it is better than most cars except for Tesla.
The hardware is another story. My R1S was a hunk of junk. It was the worst experience I’ve ever had with a car and I will never consider another Rivian.

I had an R1T Launch Edition for a little over a year and it was hands down one of the best cars I’ve ever owned. The only issue I had was with the fob proximity sensor. The only reason I sold it was it was a bit too big for me.

So it is pretty good by 2026 standards. 10 years ago this would have been considered a failure, today it is a feature.
by hulitu - This is part of why VW now contracts Rivian for their user-facing software after their own in-house software daughter company failed.
Bad timing though, in an age where talking about software sovereignty is all the rage.
