  • The Israeli government has openly and publicly stated they will spread false information and propaganda directly through social media etc, which they heavily control all throughout the west, and have directly threatened western politicians that don't support their (often false) rhetoric, along with themselves conducting terrorist activities outside their own borders.

    I'm frankly quite tired of hearing about how terrible the Iranians are (and they are), because the people they are fighting are arguably worse. Iran are a threat to the middle east, but they're fighting nations that are actively a threat to the entire planet.

    Multiple foreign governments are ruining influence operations. We should be talking about the effects that has on our public sphere, and the existence of Israeli influence operations doesn't mean we handwave away Iranian influence.

    Once at tech policy happy hour, someone got in my face and demanded I affirm that Israel has a right to exist.

    They recoiled as if they'd been physically struck when I shot back "Israel has a right to exist and not do war crimes... just like Saudi Arabia".

    (I don't give a fuck if you have dip-lo-mat-ic imm-un-itt-y. I've slapped the soul out of someone in Farragut Square before, and as I sit here looking at the data, I've concluded I'll probably do it again, don't you ever put your fucking hands on me.)

    There is no reason to treat the leaders of Israel any different than the leaders of countries like UAE, Qatar, etc.

    (And if it was up to me, we'd send all these fascist motherfuckers on a free trip to The Hague.)

  • No matter how absurd the situation becomes, no matter how engaging the videos are, we should never be fooled into thinking Iran are the good guys. This is an unfortunate, ill-conceived war, but that doesn't clean Iran's hands.

  • Iran may be the originators of good/evil duality but that doesn't mean we should follow their lead.

    Anyway Iran are good enough when we want, we fought alongside them in Afghanistan after 9/11 and against ISIS. Their oil was good enough to (let BP) take 80% of it for 30 years.

    I don't think there are many people who believe "Iran are the good guys."

    Lots of people do understand that bombing civilian infrastructure, killing innocent civilians, and taking actions that were inevitably going to lead Iran to respond with the goal of inflicting widespread economic damage has in many ways actually helped and emboldened the Iranian regime.

    This wasn't just "unfortunate" and "ill-conceived". It was stupid and arguably criminal.
