  • And there it is, finally, in all its glory: the thing that makes me install Linux on my kids computers. No way I will let some further tracking into their lives, especially as it is bound to be from one of the actually evil companies.

  • I just hope it's as simple as choosing a birthdate or clicking a button, but that's wishful thinking, isn't it? Any ID/photo databases Microsoft sets up for this system are gonna get compromised faster than the majority of their user base can migrate to Linux.

  • The more times people equate age checks with ID checks the more likely that age checks will be ID checks. Like here, even though the diagram explicitly shows a check purely for age and the system the OS uses still an unknown and likely region specific.

  • What technical implementation will be used to verify the user age?

    - Taking pictures of children seems something that will go horribly bad - Government verification is not implemented, even in countries were it is possible to verify your identity on-line (to pay taxes or so) it still lacks safe and anonymous way to verify age. - Sending IDs like passports and so will be a source of hacking and identity theft.

    I am all for having a government sanction service that allows me to send them a session key and they sign it as I am an adult. The government does not need to know from where the key comes from and the service does not need to know my ID. Just age verification.
